Yesterday we went up to Lookout Mountain in Northeast Alabama. Our intentions were to see if the leaves had changed in the Little River Canyon Preserve. We decided we were going specifically for the purpose of taking some fall pictures of the canyon. We ate at a place called Ralph's Lil' River Canyon. This is a place we would recommend if you are ever in the area, but don't drive too fast and keep your eyes open or else you will miss it, we did. We walked down to Little River Falls and then we went on the scenic drive along the canyon rim. We took many pictures of this beautiful canyon as we stopped at many different lookouts. We met some nice people along the way and were even able to assist some with self portraits. We approached the last lookout and were discussing the trail that was there. This trail was rated arduous and steep. This is the highest rating in the park. As we were talking a lady came up the trail head obviously out of breath. We asked her if it was as hard as it says and she said something about needing help. We questioned her to find out her friend had broken her leg down the trail and she needed help. We left to go and help her friend while she called for help. When we found her (Amanda) she was in much pain and could not stand up but wanted to. We helped her to her feet but she was in too much pain and the trail was way too steep to attempt walking her out so we waited for search and rescue to show up. After a couple of hours every thing was okay and we had the opportunity to witness our first high angle/rope rescue as the rescuers extracted Amanda from the canyon. Eventually we headed home and got hungry again so we stopped at a Huddle House and it just happened to be the #1 Huddle House in the country. Good food again. This was a great day and in the end everything was great. Praise God.
